It still feels like yesterday that I started at BCG: the first weeks, the excitement and all the positive energy I felt everywhere made a big impression. Now BCG and it’s people still make a huge impression on me almost everyday. It is the way people think, the fun you can have and the results you can achieve as a team as well as an individual.

What I like best of my work is mainly the work itself of course. The projects I’ve been working on were all totally different. The industries differed from banking to energy, from telecom to chemicals and also the food industry. The learnings at the beginning of a case can be enormous, as you need to have a kick-start to get to know an industry or company a.s.a.p.

Not only do projects vary over industries, but they’re also very different on the problems to be solved. I’ve worked on some pure strategy cases; many existing markets, many products; entering new markets or products, acquire competitors or divest businesses. This was really interesting and challenging to work on. Next to that many different kinds of projects exist, but the one common factor is our way of working. Always together with the client, and not for the client, looking for added value to the client. It gives a real good feeling when you succeed.

Maybe a more important part than the content of the work is the dynamics within BCG. We always work in teams, but each is in the lead of a part of the project (and client team). This combination fits me perfectly. There is a lot of
fun within your team as well as with client team members. The fun part is much bigger than I expected when I graduated from university. Maybe I expected it to be an intellectually very challenging job, but with some  experience I must say it is much about communicating with people and simply getting stuff done. It’s a challenge to get the right people in a meeting room and to make them think in a different way of the business they know for many years. There are many challenges for you as an individual or as a team, the work is great and always
changing, and above all: you can have a lot of fun!

Remmelt joined the Amsterdam office of The Boston Consulting Group on July 1, 2004.

Remmelt holds an MBA of Columbia Business School in New York and a Master in Econometrics and Operational Research & Management (ORM) of the University of Amsterdam. For his final thesis in ORM he optimized the routing process in a distribution center in retail. For his Econometrics thesis he did research at the effect of the introduction of the Euro on bilateral trade within the EU.

I love airplanes and airlines, I always have, so when I became a project leader in 2007, I realized that I wanted to work in the industry I have such a passion for.

BCG believes in charting your own course, so when they gave me the opportunity to become dedicated to the airline industry, it was an offer I could not refuse!

The last 12 months have been the most exciting of my tenure at BCG. I have worked on high impact airline projects in Europe and Australia and covered a wide range of topics, including a high profile sales process, a growth strategy for the client's freight division and the development of a more active corporate center that could better manage the different divisions.

Dirk-Maarten joined BCG in 2000, after receiving his masters of law from the University of Leiden.

Since then he has worked on projects in the airline industry, financial services, consumer goods, telecoms, industrial goods, railways and the automotive industry for BCG offices in Amsterdam, Sydney and Madrid.

In 2005, he graduated from Columbia Business School (Beta Gama Sigma honor society, Dean's List) in New York, focusing on finance and economics, and pricing.

Dirk-Maarten is married and has a son and a daughter.

After working at BCG for two years, the opportunity arose to
do a project for the World Food Programme in Rome. At our
office, international staffing requests are sent to the whole
office. I reacted immediately when the WFP opportunity
email came by. One week later I was in Rome, working
together with a BCG team with passionate people from all
over the world. This period was definitely one of the
highlights in my BCG career. It’s exciting to see that our
blank-sheet approach is as valuable in the non-profit sector
as it is in the private sector. It was just wonderful to see all
our plans work in the field and since then WFP has a fund
where projects can borrow from.

Wim Herijgers is a Principal in the Amsterdam office. He
also is a member of the Information Technology practice.
Prior to working for the firm, Wim founded ZZorro, a
company in the field of mobile internet where he was
responsible for general management and technology. He
also was a Consultant for Shell Services International. Wim
holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the
Delft University of Technology and an MBA from INSEAD.

It was the summer of 2001 and I had to make a decision. Whether to study economics, psychology, English, or perhaps astronomy. Or maybe go abroad for a while. Instead of making the decision, I decided to combine it all and went abroad for a year to study a wide range of topics within the Liberal Arts program of Tufts University. Five years later, having returned to Amsterdam and finished my economics degree, I once more had to make a decision. To start working, to study some more, or to explore the world. Again I decided to go abroad, this time to London to examine the mathematical side of economics. When contemplating where to work, for the third time I struggled with the decision. Fortunately, BCG offered an answer as one of the few companies that still let's me combine all the different things I want to do. Whether in Amsterdam, or abroad, having a closer look at a Financial company or one that sells candy, all options are open.

Floks holds an MA in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from the London School of Economics and an MA in Economics from the University of Amsterdam. She also completed a year of Liberal Arts at Tufts University. Before joining BCG as an associate in January 2009, she worked part-time for an economics research company and interned at BCG during the summer of 2008. Floks has a broad interest in many different topics and likes to alternate her time in Amsterdam with years spend abroad.
