The one aspect of BCG that I find most exciting is our ability to truly change the trajectories, and even the industries, of our clients. I once worked on a project with three companies within one industry. While these companies are in fierce competition with each other, there are also aspects of their business they can do more efficiently together without affecting the level of competition between them. By helping the three companies to jointly outsource part of their back office processing activities, we allowed them to take costs out of their industry as a whole, which was beneficial both for them and for the end consumers.
This project was not only exciting because of the impact it had on our three clients and on their industry, but also because of the challenges we faced in facilitating three parties that are fierce competitors in every other aspect through a difficult process with several psychological, legal, and regulatory hurdles. The combination of intellectual horsepower and strong interpersonal skills required for such an assignment is what sets our consultants apart.
